What Are LED High Bay Lights and Their Best Uses

When you’re setting up large, commercial spaces, you need a way to properly light up your building without having to invest in an overabundance of fixtures or settle for darkened areas. For these situations, it’s to your benefit to understand what are LED high bay lights and their best uses to get the most out of your purchase. To avoid unnecessary expenses and provide as much light coverage as you need, consider some of the qualities of commercial LED high bay lights.

Their Characteristics

LED high bay LEDs have lights that generate significant lumen amounts, typically ranging from 15,000 to 30,000 lumens. While it can produce immense amounts of light, high bays do not sacrifice lifespan for light intensity. Like many LED fixtures, high bays have an expected lifespan of around 50,000 hours; this is in comparison to fluorescent lights, which typically last 10,000 to 15,000 hours.

Less Maintenance Costs

This extended lifespan results in you not investing as much in ongoing expenses to replace burnt-out lights. While LEDs may be more expensive to install, the money you save by not constantly replacing them adds up.

Energy Saving

LEDs also have the quality of energy efficiency, saving you further on your monthly energy expenses. LEDs use up one watt to produce 130 lumens of light, while fluorescent fixtures only produce about half of, at roughly 60 lumens per watt.

Their Appropriate Applications

Because of their intense light output, you must install high bay LED light fixtures in large areas with high ceilings. Typically, the rule with high bays is that you must place them on ceilings that are 25 feet high or higher. Installing them on anything shorter than that can cause the lights to be too bright, affecting the vision of employees working on the floor.

Know What You Need

After knowing what LED high bays are and their best applications, evaluate the space you have and determine whether you can benefit from their incorporation. They can offer you excellent light coverage and clarity in the right situations, but you need to know when the light output is too much.
